Mom and I took a little ride today over to the
Winter Greenhouse. What a nice way to spend the morning. That place is a beautiful nursery.... they have everything.
It's still too early to do any gardening; but today was the bare root day for shrubs and trees. When it's bare root day you can get the plants 25% off. Plus Mom had a gift certificate that expired the end of the month.... so today was the day to go.
It felt so good to walk through there ... the warm humid air ... the greenery... the flowers .... etc....
Mom ended up buying a Cortland apple tree, a mock orange plant, a flowering almond, a beautiful coral colored hibiscus, an aloe vera plant, and some kind of sedum, about four different kinds of geraniums. She also had a couple other perrenial plants.
I picked up a sedum, some ground cover thyme, and a tomato plant. It's too early yet for me to get too many plants going. Although once the weather warms... look out! I have hypertufa pots to fill.
I was walking around the yard today looking at my flowerbeds that are still half under snow; but just itching to push themselves out the rest of the way as soon as that snow is gone. I see a lot of poppies, and lilies and irises showing some budding growth already. I can't wait for the garden to come up; but I also don't want it to come up too soon and then get a freeze and have them stunted or killed off.
It's also raining a real light mist today. The snow will really go down now. Thank God!!
In the fields and open areas it's all gone; but here in the middle of the woods like we are we still have a lot. My back lawn is still all white.
The creeks and river are really full and flooding in some areas; but on some of the lakes yet where there is still water there is still over 3 feet of ice. Weird weather we have here in the spring.
Speaking of weird weather... what about that earthquake in Illinois? It was a 5.2 ... I guess parts of southern Wisconsin even felt the effects of it.
Well... got to get off of the internet and go get some work done. We're in the process of switching the bait shop over from winter tackle to summer. Also have to go and make some eats. I have turkey legs roasting in the slow cooker and they smell soooooooooo good. I think I'll make up some mashed potatoes and gravy to go with them. Maybe a little salad. Yum.
